The Body of Abel Found by Adam and Eve, Painting by William Blake I came across a fascinating little book while doing research on different witchcraft legends called The Mark of Cain by Ruth Mellinkoff. This book actually has nothing to do with witchcraft but with Judeo-Christian concepts. The mark of Cain refers to the biblical story of Cain and Abel, sons of Adam and Eve. Cain is known as the first murderer after he kills his brother whose offering was accepted by God while his own offering was rejected. The 'mark' referred to in the title is mentioned in the story of the brothers in Genesis 4:8-15 (KJV) : 8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. 9 And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? 10 And he said, What hast thou done? ...
