Sugilite - Crystal for Empaths and Universal Love

Physical Properties

Sugilite is a dense, beautiful stone that ranges in color from pink to purple. The translucent form is called gel sugilite. It's also known by the trade name of lavulite or luvulite to indicate its lavender color. Sugilite of the most intense purple is mainly found in South Africa.

Empaths and Sensitives

Sugilite is an excellent stone for those who consider themselves empathic or just simply sensitive souls who have a hard time coping with this reality. Sometimes these people become overloaded by the energy impressions of environments and people and have a hard time shielding themselves. Wearing, carrying or meditating with sugilite may help them become better able to cope with this.
This stone helps ground the purple ray by connecting the third-eye chakra with the base chakra. Thus, it helps these sensitives feel more at home in this world and accept their place on the planet. This may lessen the sense of hopelessness they may feel at times. They may question why they are here more often than others, and sugilite can help them find answers to this in meditation.

Parents who believe their children may be empathic or sensitive may consider placing sugilite in the child's bedroom. It's said to help the child retain a sense of innocence and wonder about the world. You may gain further insight into the stone by asking these children what impressions they get when holding it.

Healing Properties

Sugilite attracts healing energy. Katrina Raphaell in Crystal Enlightenment - The Transforming Properties of Crystals and Healing Stones states that sugilite eases conditions that are caused by pent up stress and anger. She is of the school of thought that cancer is such a disease.

Sugilite works with the purple ray of the third eye chakra and so is one of the stones used in healing stress, anxiety and depression. As mentioned, this stone grounds the energy of the purple ray so that it may be better utilized for physical healing. Being a third-eye stone, it's also used for headaches by placing it directly on the middle of the forehead.

Stone of Universal and Spiritual Love

Author Melody of Love is in the Earth - A Kaleidoscope of Crystals calls sugilite a "love stone for this age." It resonates with a higher love beyond that of the physical plane. According to her, it helps to manifest this type of energy on the earth plane.

By doing heart chakra work with sugilite, the user may be opened up to expressing love at this level for humanity by experiencing universal brotherhood. It may be helpful for those who have a hard time seeing past their own pain or life circumstances to show compassion for others. It also facilities self-love and forgiveness.
